The annual Goodwood Festival of Speed returns to the grounds of Lord March’s estate this weekend for a few days of gasoline-fueled fun and excitement.
It can be hard to keep up with the three-day event and everything that happens, so we’ll be keeping you in the loop with this post. The event will be live streamed all weekend long, but if you don’t have the time to watch every hour of it, you can simply check back here to see what you missed.
Pat Doran Crashes His 1986 Ford RS2000 Evo 2
British rallycross veteran Pat Doran had a pretty major crash in his Ford RS2000 Evo 2 on Thursday, grabbing a bit too much grass and binning it into the hay bales at the infamous Molecomb Corner.
New London Cab Makes its World Debut
There are few vehicles on the road more instantly recognizable than the classic London cab, so it’s a big deal when an all-new one arrives. The London Taxi Company showed off its new plug-in black cab at Goodwood on Thursday, sending it up the hill in almost complete silence. It’s the first all-new model from them since 2006, and what better place to show it off than Britain’s own Goodwood Festival of Speed?
Debut of the Aston Martin DB11 V8
Aston Martin pulled the veil from its 4.0-liter AMG V8 powered DB11 this week, just in time for it to appear at Goodwood. The new 500-horsepower model variant joins the 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 DB11 in Aston’s model range and will go on sale later this year.
Aston Martin Vantage AMR Pro Sounds Bonkers
The Aston Martin Vantage AMR Pro takes the track-focused Vantage GT8 and turns it up to 11. It boasts a 503 horsepower version of the Vantage’s 4.7-liter V8, which is joined by race-inspired kit such as centerlock wheels, adjustable suspension, a built-in rollcage and a wildly aggressive aero kit. Just seven examples will be built, all of which will sound absolutely insane.
McLaren 570S Spider Debuts
The droptop McLaren 570S made its first public appearance at Goodwood on Thursday. If you’re familiar with the standard 570S, you won’t need much of an intro to the Spider — just know it features a retractable folding hardtop and retains the same structural rigidity of the hardtop. The first 400 cars will be special Launch Edition models.
The Bugatti Chiron Shows Us its Party Trick
If you’re anything like us, the first thing you would do after climbing behind the wheel of the Bugatti Chiron is activate the launch control and learn what going zero-to-60 mph in 2.5 seconds feels like. After seeing the Chiron go up the hill at Goodwood, we at least know what such a feat looks like, and it looks fast. Check out that massive air brake in action too. Whoa.
Supercharged 1934 Mercedes W25 Sounds Like a Manic House Fly
In 1934, Daimler-Benz rolled out its newest Grand Prix car: the W25. With a supercharged straight-8 engine under the hood making 300 horsepower, the W25 took four wins in 1934 and went on to win the championship in 1935 with Rudolf Caracciola at the helm. Mercedes is running it up the hill climb this weekend as you’ll find out by watching the video above, the supercharger makes it sound a like some sort of pissed off house fly.
Kamaz Dakar Truck Gets All Sorts of Sideways
The Red Bull-backed Kamaz Dakar team showed up to Goodwood this year with their wild purpose-built, forward control rally truck. They didn’t dawdle it around the course, either. Driver Airat Mardeev manhandles the thing through the corners, even getting sideways and going into a bit of a speed wobble before gaining control again. Forget the supercars, we just want to see this thing in action.
Ferrari’s Oldest Car and Newest Car Share the Track
The first car ever produced by Enzo Ferrari’s storied company that bears his family name was the 125 S. The latest model to be released by the Italian manufacturer is the LaFerrari Aperta. To celebrate the two cars being in the same place at once, Ferrari ran them up Goodwood’s hillclimb course in unison. It was quite the sight to behold, and would you just listen to that LaFerrari?

The Ferrari P3 is one the best-looking, best-sounding racing cars of all time and it was mighty successful to boot. This one hardly needs an introduction. Just watch and listen.
The 1992 Audi S4 GTO Whistles You the Song of its People
You might think the car in the video above is the same as Audi’s iconic 90 IMSA GTO, but you’d be wrong. Not that we’d blame you – they certainly look similar. But while the two shared a 2.2-liter inline-five engine plucked from the Audi Sport Quattro Pikes Peak racer, they were based on different chassis. They are both equally awesome, though. Just listen to that turbo whistle!

1,200HP Nissan GT-R Redefines the Word ‘Drift’
Goodwood is typically all about tasteful vintage motoring, but in recent years, they’ve become a bit more hip to the kids. This year’s edition of the annual event included a dedicated drift section and a few drifters also went up the world-famous hillclimb course. That included Steve Biagioni, who essentially redefined the word ‘drift’ by getting very sideways into Turns 1 and 2.
Valtteri Bottas Shreds Some Pirellis
Mercedes-AMG Formula 1 driver Valtteri Bottas was one of a few Formula 1 drivers at this year’s Festival of Speed. He wasted no time at the event, climbing behind the wheel of last year’s Mercedes-AMG W07 and torturing the wide Pirelli rears in a way he never could during a Grand Prix.
New GT2 RS Steps Out For the First Time
Making headlines at Goodwood was the debut of the all-new Porsche 911 GT2 RS. It produces 700 horsepower from a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter six, weighs just a hair over 3,200 lbs and features some GT3-style aerodynamics. Porsche sent it up the hillclimb course on Sunday – marking the first time the public has seen the new GT2 RS in action. We’ll just choose to ignore that awkward burnout attempt.
IMSA/Group C Jaguar XJR-12D Blows the Competition Away
This IMSA/Group C Jaguar might be more than 25 years old, but it hasn’t slowed down one bit. In the hands of Don Law Racing’s Justin Law, the old Jag rocketed up the Goodwood hillclimb in 46.13 seconds, monstering the existing leader by more than two seconds and reminding us all why Group C cars were the best. This veteran Jag is quite the racecar, and Law is quite the driver.
As You Do: NASCAR Chevy SS Bins It
Watching a stock car try to maneuver its way around tight turns is very entertaining. Then this happens and you’re reminded why the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series only runs a couple of road course races a year. This was actually the second crash for this Chevy during its Goodwood outing. Whoops.
The Champ Returns
Nico Rosberg shocked the motorsport world when he announced his retirement last year after beating Lewis Hamilton to take his first and only F1 World Championship. He attended Goodwood this weekend, where he climbed back behind the wheel of his championship winning Mercedes W07 and put on a show for the crowds. A special moment for Rosberg indeed.
